Push & Pull

How does the Pushing and Pulling functionality work?

1. Push

1.1 Push to Single Model

A user can makes changes to a local Type Parameter (for example) and then Push the updated Type to the Type File.

Each Push will be tracked by Night Runner. Each Push creates a log that can be viewed in PowerBI. You can see who Pushed what, when into the Type File.

Analytics - Push Reports can be viewed in the PowerBI file. If you're interesting in learning more about the Analytics included with Night Runner - read our tutorial here.

1.2 Push to Many

From version 0.5.8.2 onwards, we introduced the Push to Many functionality. As the name suggests, this feature allows you to select one or many Types in a model and Push them to as many models as required. To set up Push to Many:

  1. From within the model you want to Push from, open the Night Runner Settings. In the Push & Pull tab of the Settings, click on 'Add File' to add a reference to local files or 'Add BIM360' to add BIM360 models. You can use Shift+Select to select more than one at a time, if you wish.

  2. Once all these models have been added, click Save and then Close.

  3. Then, click on Push to Many (you will need to have Admin enabled. Not sure what that means? Read this). Select the Type(s) you want to push, then click Push. You could also select instances of the Type you wish to push within the model, then click on Push to Many, then Yes to confirm the selection.

  4. Next, you should see a list of files which you can push to (this is the same list that you set in the Push & Pull Settings in step 1 above). Select the files you want to push to and click OK.

This process is illustrated graphically below:

2. Pull

A user can Pull any Family that exists in the Type File to Project File.

Each Pull will be tracked by Night Runner. Each Push creates a log that can be viewed in PowerBI. You can see who Pulled what & when from the Type File.
